Bushnell At Baron’s Cove

It’s time for cosmos, cupcakes, and Candace at Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor. Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell will be at the cozy Sag Harbor hotel on Thursday, April 12, from 6 to 8 PM.

Her novel Sex and the City was the basis for the HBO hit series and two subsequent movies. Bushnell, who divides her time between Connecticut and New York City, has influenced two generations of women through her writing. Her novel Lipstick Jungle became a popular television series on NBC, as did The Carrie Diaries on the CW.

With a gift for tapping into the New York minute with her words, Bushnell was lauded by The Guardian newspaper: “She caustically addresses the conditions of materialism, cramped urban life, and metropolitan speed, where fame and wealth are all around, but never in one’s grasp.”

Like her Sex and the City heroine Carrie Bradshaw, Bushnell moved to New York City at a young age and became a freelance writer. She wrote dark humor about women, relationships, and dating for Self Magazine, Mademoiselle, and Esquire.

In 1990, she penned a column that would become a precursor for Sex and the City, called The Human Cartoon. The fictional serial was published in Hamptons Magazine. Prior to HBO fame, in 1994 she created the column Sex and the City, which ran in the New York Observer.

Next week, East Enders are invited to join the original Carrie Bradshaw for cosmo cocktail specials as well as complimentary cupcakes. The author will be reading an excerpt from her upcoming book, followed by a Q&A with the audience. Bring a copy of your favorite Bushnell novel to be signed.

Baron’s Cove is also running a “Sex and Sag Harbor” special. For those looking for a getaway with your three closest gal pals (i.e. Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda), or a romantic weekend with your own Mr. Big, Baron’s Cove is offering a backdrop for all things Sex and the City. The package includes a signed copy of Sex and The City, two classic cosmo cocktails, two cute cupcakes, $50 dinner dining credit, and a complimentary continental breakfast. Rates start at $199.
