We have reached the halfway point of Summer. While it has been different than previous seasons due to the COVID-19, that has not stopped the East End from having a good time. While out and about, you can rub elbows with some of the top influencers. While galas are on hold, you can still attend or help your favorite charities virtually. Here are 10 people and places to know for a fun second part of Summer.

Dede Gotthelf, The Hotelier
Dede Gotthelf, owner of the Southampton Inn, bought the idyllic Inn in 1998. Dede has since transformed the Inn into Southampton’s premier family friendly, affordable, hospitality and event venue. As an active member of the community, Dede is on the board of the Southampton History Museum, and Pianofest of the Hamptons. She is also a member of the Southampton Business Revitalization Committee and generously offers meeting rooms to local charities such as Southampton Animal Shelter, Children’s Orchestra Society and The Fresh Air Fund. Dede went above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the Southampton Inn followed all CDC guidelines, and going the extra mile with the use of UV cleaning lights.
Ian Duke, The Restaurateur
This Summer, Ian Duke recently opened the all new Union Sushi & Steak which manages to fuse the energy of a supper club from the days of old with a modern ambiance, serving dry-aged steaks and having a full sushi bar. Duke’s other new venture, The Baylander (also called by its naval reference THE STEEL BEACH) is docked on the West Side of Manhattan and is a riverfront bar and restaurant. World’s Smallest Aircraft Carrier turned restaurant offers the perfect escape from the summer heat of the City to enjoy food and cocktails at the waterfront. Duke is also owner and partner of Hamptons hotspots Southampton Social Club, where he is bringing the silent disco phenomenon, and Union Burger Bar; as well as Prohibition and Lucky’s Famous Burgers in New York City.
Tony Fortuna, The Hospitality Guru
Restaurateur Tony Fortuna is making his return to Southampton for a second season. Just like its sister restaurant on New York’s Upper East Side, T-Bar Southampton offers guests outstanding cuisine in a casual yet elegant space on the outdoor terrace and garden which also makes it the quintessential location for evening cocktails on those warm summer evenings. T-Bar Southampton is a new spin on the classic upscale steak house. The menu features a wide range of dishes, ranging from well-cooked renditions of classics, to refined and inventive plates, providing the ultimate dining experience.
Emily & Benjamin Demarchelier, The Dynamic Duo
The sister brother duo of Emily and Benjamin Demarchelier are continuing the legacy of the Demarchelier family’s eatery in New York with Demarchelier Restaurant at The Menhaden Hotel in Greenport. Since the original opening in 1978, Demarchelier has worked to bring a little piece of France to New York. The traditional French menu is paired perfectly with a wide range of predominantly French wines. Every meal that leaves their kitchen expresses the soul of authentic French bistro fair. Demarchelier will open their second Greenport location in Fall 2020.
Craig Singer, The Director
Craig Singer has directed Award-Winning indie flicks with the likes of Debbie Harry and Neil Patrick Harris (post his Doogie Howser period). He’s received an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Primetime Emmy Award Nomination and a Silver Telly Award. He’s launched cutting-edge tech companies that integrated film with the internet and social media. He spent almost a decade working as a creative VP for Disney. Now, he’s back in the director’s chair with a new edge-of-your-seat and eerily timely horror film: “6:45.”
Marie-Claire Gladstone, The Realtor
Marie-Claire Gladstone along with fellow Corcoran agent Jason Karadus, has taken her talents and services to open the new Corcoran Country Living franchise in Dutchess County. Marie-Claire has successfully negotiated and closed many impressive sales in condos and coops, throughout Manhattan’s prominent neighborhoods, including in the position as sales director in new developments, like the “Chelsea Modern” and “10 Sullivan.” In just one year Marie-Claire became a member of Corcoran’s prestigious Multi-Million Dollar Club and has remained from 2011-2018, joining the Presidents Circle in 2017.
Matthew Miller, The Designer
Matthew Miller founded StudioLAB in 2007. StudioLAB is a creative full-service design studio based in Union Square New York with a growing portfolio of residential and commercial projects in New York City and the Hamptons. A true born and raised Manhattanite and son of a notable painter, Miller learned early about the importance of imagination and creativity. Prior to forming StudioLAB, Matthew apprenticed at various architectural firms in New York City where he designed and managed projects for retail, high-end residential and commercial clients.
Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, The Charitable Cause
With the cancellation of the 11th Annual Unconditional Love Gala due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation has started the “Match Your Gift” program. SASF relies heavily on the funds generated by the Gala to care for their shelter animals and rescue pets in need, and the new program is great way to raise those funds. All donations up to $150,000 will be matched by a few generous donors. During these times of great uncertainty, SASF will keep providing the community with these vital resources to ensure the health and safety of animals in the township and beyond; and continue their mission to provide care for every animal.
Duryea’s Orient Point, The New Seafood Hotspot
Owner Mark Rowan of Montauk-based seafood restaurant Duryea’s Lobster Deck, along with managing partner Steven Jauffrineau, has opened their new North Fork location in Orient Point. The 3,000-square-foot space located at the former Orient by the Sea includes both indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar and lounge area all with waterfront views. They have several boat slips for vessels up to 75 feet long at their marina. As with Montauk restaurant, the menu features plenty of lobster platters, with their classic lobster roll and lobster cobb salad. They will also have a full raw-bar selection including oysters and clams.
