When: 08/26/2018 - 08/27/2018, 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
boots on the ground theater, a Hamptons-based history theater troop founded by WPPB radio host, Bonnie Grice, is holding open auditions for its next mainstage production, The Red Badge of Courage.
They will be using a new play adaptation of Stephen Crane’s monumental classic written by Virginia playwright, Catherine Bush. The the play will fill Southampton Cultural Center, SCC’s prime fall slot, October 19 to November 4, 2018. Josephine Teresi Wallace, who recently performed with boots on the ground theater in The Miracle Worker, has returned to direct this production.
The show will feature professional and student actors, providing opportunities for young male actors to shine in the roles of Henry and his regiment. Open auditions will be held on Sunday, August 26 at 5:30 PM, and Monday, August 27, at 6:30 PM, at the Southampton Cultural Center.
The story centers on Henry Fleming, a young, Union soldier who battles his inner demons as he runs from and eventually faces his greatest fears. This intimate and realistic journey of self-discovery is remarkably modern and relatable to every human being’s inner struggle at some point in their lives. Considered the first great war novel, The Red Badge of Courage has surprisingly anti-war tones and universal themes that make it entirely relevant today.
Not only will boots on the ground theater be using historically accurate costumes, but they will be inviting some of Long Island’s Civil War Reenactors to participate onstage and off. The Reenactors will bring additional authenticity to the production, as well as their extensive Civil War knowledge, providing an educational opportunity through question and answer sessions after the student performances.
