A retired minister who was bound, gagged, and held in his own Shelter Island house on Oak Tree Lane for several days two weeks ago died on April 16. Authorities believe he was the target of a home invasion.
The Rev. Canon Paul Wancura, a retired Episcopal priest, passed away at Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center from injuries sustained during the burglary.
Wancura was in bad shape when a friend found him and was unable to give police a time frame or description of his assailant or assailants. He had been airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and according to published reports was scheduled for surgery.
No arrests have been made in the case. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
