Scott Lechmanski already has an open case in Southampton, police say

Shelter Island Man’s Truck Seized After DWI

An accident on North Ferry Road led to the arrest by Shelter Island police on a misdemeanor charge of drunken driving the afternoon of Monday, August 20.

According to a press release sent out by the police, Scott Lechmanski, 57, was arrested after an accident involving the 2009 Ford pick up truck he was said to be driving. He failed sobriety tests, and a breath test at headquarters came back with a reading positive for intoxication, according to the police.

The report also says that Lechmanski’s truck was seized by Suffolk County because he has a prior DWI conviction. That conviction came more than 10 years ago, so the new charge remains a misdemeanor.

However, Lechmanski finds himself in a tight spot, legally, since he also has an open case in Southampton Town Justice Court on a charge of driving with ability impaired by drugs, also a misdemeanor, following an arrest in July 2017.

Bail was set in the Shelter Island case at $1000, which was posted.
