The East End offers week-long Halloween fun

Eerie Events Await




The night of mischief is soon upon us. But, why only celebrate the much-anticipated haunting of Halloween for a single night when there are several nights of ghoulish fun to be had — spanning an entire week? Whether you’re in for the tricks or the treats, here’s a list of places to let out some screams.

Riverhead presents a chillingly good Halloween Fest all weekend long. On Friday, October 25, there will be an 8 PM showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at Suffolk Theater. Saturday, October 26, from 3 to 4 PM are the famed coffin races. Also, at 3 PM that day, “Dracula: The Play” will be at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall, with a second performance at 8 PM. From 4 to 6 PM, Main Street will open for trick or treating, followed by a Grand Halloween Costume Parade at 7 PM. See more at www.halloweenfestriverhead.com.

Out in Greenport, First and South’s Halloween costume party, Nautical Nightmare, will be held on Friday, October 25, from 7 PM to midnight. Tickets are $50 but include all food, plenty of boo-ze, and a grand prize for a One Love paddleboard. Go to www.firstandsouth.com.

The Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead brings back a dual celebration for families and thrill seekers alike on Saturday, October 26. Beginning the day, from 11 AM to 4 PM, will be the Bats, Barnacles, & Broomsticks Halloween Party for the whole family. Vendors, raffle prizes, candy for trick or treating, demonstrations, and more are all free with aquarium admission. Then, the Halloween Masquerade Ball returns from 8 PM to midnight. For $69.95 per person, this adults-only event will include an open bar, DJ, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a light buffet. Costumes or a mask are all the better. The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons will have Little Lucy’s Halloween Pet Parade at Agawam Park in Southampton on Saturday, October 26, at 1 PM. There will be music by Channel 11, refreshments, and prizes.

Long Ireland Brewery in Riverhead has its annual Halloween costume party on Saturday, October 26, from 6 to 11 PM. It will include live music by seven-piece band When Stars Collide, and food by Nice Buns Slammin’ Sliders Food Truck. Costumes are required, with prizes awarded. Greenport Harbor Brewery hosts its annual Halloween Party, at its Peconic location, on Saturday, October 26, from 7 to 11 PM with live music by DJ Biggie, a “triple” costume contest, and a $10 cover. A 21 and over event. Then, on Sunday, October 27, at 3 PM will be the inaugural Howl-O-Ween dog parade. Costume prizes for best dog costume, best owner/dog costume combo, and cutest dog. Union Cantina in Southampton awakens with a Day of the Dead Halloween Bash on Saturday, October 26, starting at 7 PM. There will be live music by Souliztik, complimentary passed hors d’oeuvres, tequila tasting by Espolon Tequila, costume prizes, and a prix-fixe special three-course dinner for $29. A Halloween Silent Disco Dance Party will have guests be doing the monster mash at the Southampton Arts Center on Saturday, October 26, from 7 to 11 PM. The cover is $10, with costume contests. Go to www.southamptonartscenter.org.

The Clubhouse in East Hampton will have a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 26, from 9 to 11 PM. For $30, this 21-and-over event presents a fire and snake show by Samantha Slithers, an open bar, passed food, and best costume contest with prizes. The Mill Roadhouse in Westhampton presents its annual Halloween Bash on Saturday, October 26, from 10 PM to 2 AM. Costume contest, musical treats by East End Entertainment on two floors. Call 631-684-9413.

The Sag Harbor Historical Society invites the public to Annie’s Field of Jack-O’-Lanterns on Wednesday, October 30, from 5 to 6 PM. On All Hallows Eve the Annie Cooper Boyd House at 174 Main Street will be filled with carved pumpkins, lit with battery operated candles or tea lights. The public is encouraged to bring their own, as carvers will gather on the lawn and front porch before parading their creations throughout the house. There will be light refreshments and Nancy Remkus will be playing Halloween songs. Weather permitting, dancing will also take place. A $5 family donation is encouraged.

Over at Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor, will be a Haunted Happy Hour on Thursday, October 31, from 4 to 8 PM. Treats include $8 wines by the glass, $6 beers, and specialty “spooktacular” cocktails.

Get literal with a Literary Costume Party at Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor on Saturday, November 2, from 5 to 7 PM. Guests are encouraged to come as a favorite writer or character to celebrate 20 years of ownership of the store by Maryann Calendrille and Kathryn Szoka. Food, prizes, and maybe even some readings will take place.

Rowdyween is back for the 20th year at Rowdy Hall in East Hampton. On Thursday, October 31, from 7:30 PM until the ghoulish hour there will be $5 drafts, $6 well drinks, and live music. A $30 advance or $35 at-the-door cover allows for a complimentary drink and plenty of snacks. Enter for a chance to win one of $500 in cash prizes for best costumes. On Friday, November 1, from 7 PM to midnight will be the first annual 38 Fright Street costume party at Ellen’s on Front with North Fork Brewing Company in Greenport.
