Southampton Town’s new All Seniors Assistance Program, a delivery service for seniors, had a successful rollout.
More than 400 seniors are registered for the program, and there are more than two dozen merchants enrolled in the door-to-door service, which delivers groceries and prescriptions Monday through Friday between noon and 4 PM.
Merchants can register by going to the town website and completing the business participant form or by calling 631-702-1777. Seniors can also register through the town’s website — www.southamptontownny.gov/asap — or by calling 631-702-1777 from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
Seniors can place an order with a participating merchant using an assigned five-digit ID number, and pay for the order by credit card. When the order is ready for pickup, the merchant calls the All Senior Assistance Program, and a town employee delivers the items to the senior’s doorstep, wearing protective gloves and a mask.
“COVID-19 is particularly dangerous to senior citizens,” said Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman. “The new service will help seniors stay at home and will help our local businesses stay viable through this public health emergency.”
The town has provided a list on its website of all local businesses that offer their own delivery services and/or provide takeout orders. The list can be found on the town’s main page at www.southamptontownny.gov.
