Steve Glick is a busy man. As the Senior Vice President of Advertising and Marketing at Saunders & Associates, he’s the leading force behind many of the beautiful homes you see and read about all over the Hamptons — and beyond. A member of the team since 2010, Glick knows just what it takes to support a team of top-ranked agents and sellers to find the perfect buyer for their homes. Here, we sat down with Glick to find out every detail!
How did you get your start in the Real Estate Industry?
Back in 2005, while in school for graphic design, I was hired as a freelance graphic designer for Allan Schneider Associates, which at the time was the largest locally owned firm in the Hamptons. It’s incredible to think that it was 13 years ago now. So much has changed in the industry over the past decade.
How has the industry changed throughout your career?
The industry has changed immensely and continues to evolve. When I started, marketing revolved around print ads and photos. Nowadays, advertising platforms have become much more digitally based and social media platforms are an increasingly important place to expose our listings and our agents. Today’s consumer wants an immersive online shopping experience, which is why we have recently redesigned and relaunched our website. The award-winning site offers captivating photography, videos, 3D tours, and a user-friendly interface. With the constant stream of data flowing to a wide variety of real estate websites, blogs and news media outlets, keeping our online databases up to date with the most accurate information is vitally important.
Tell us about your day-to-day duties as the Senior Vice President of Advertising and Marketing at Saunders.
A fundamental part of my role is managing our marketing department, which is comprised of a talented group of marketing specialists. In the mornings I will meet with the team and strategically plan for our day. We discuss ad concepts, deadlines, new listings, technology, and social media efforts. I collaborate with them on the creative process and encourage them to come up with new ideas. We aim to always be on the cutting edge. Real Estate is a truly fast moving, 24/7 industry. For me this means I am always on the go, while always making myself available to executive time sensitive requests or projects at any time of the day. I will even accompany agents to meetings with potential clients, to help convey what makes Saunders the most effective real estate firm in the Hamptons.
You oversee more than a few talented agents. How do you motivate them to market themselves?
Every single agent is different. Their businesses are different, their styles are different, and each of them has different needs when it comes to their marketing. I spend a lot of time with the agents at Saunders & Associates, getting to know them and oftentimes their clientele, which helps me to understand who they are, and allows me to provide targeted marketing plans for each agent to reach the right customers.
Saunders’ unmistakable tag line is, “A higher form of realty.” How do you bring this to life?
“A higher form of realty” is built on the core concepts on which our company is based—empowering our agents and servicing our customers. The first thing I realized when I came to Saunders & Associates eight years ago is that they truly live this motto from the top on down. The owners, Colleen and Andrew Saunders, have cultivated a culture of excellence.
You can see this from the level of detail and care they have put into all of our offices. When a client or customer comes in to see us they will feel at home, and are greeted by agents, staff, and management who are not only happy to help, but who will go the extra mile to offer unparalleled service. Our management team is extremely involved in every aspect of the process and our staff is incredibly attentive and will always go the extra mile to ensure a job well done.
What are some of the stand-out services offered to Saunders agents?
At Saunders we offer concierge style service, with offices that are open and fully staffed seven days a week. We empower the agents by providing the tools they need to focus on what’s important: servicing their clients and achieving their real estate objectives. Our state of the art technology enables us to produce all our marketing materials in-house.
Are photos the secret to renting/selling a property today? Is it drone photography? Are there any new methodologies?
Photography has always been the foundation of successful real estate marketing, as those images are used across all platforms. We take great pride in delivering outstanding imagery. While digital marketing has become the fastest way to get our listings seen by potential buyers, there is still something to be said about seeing an eye-catching image on a full page spread of a glossy magazine. With 3-D virtual tours, potential buyers can walk through an entire house on their personal device.
Drone photography is also an effective tool in providing a different perspective from what can be seen on the ground.
How has social media impacted marketing in the Real Estate Industry?
Social media brings an immediacy and currency to our messaging in real time, which had previously not been possible. Today a potential buyer can attend an open house from the comfort of their home, by joining on to one of our Facebook live streams.
They can find inspiration from a new listing posted on Instagram that they can share with friends within seconds. Social media brings our brand to life, offering an immersive view into who we are as a company.
What inspires you? Any influencers?
Studying up on the newest technology and marketing advances is always intriguing, it is an ever-evolving field and something new is always on the horizon. Attending real estate conferences around the country can also be very beneficial, it allows you to see how other successful firms in different luxury markets are utilizing today’s tools. Knowing the market and following the market trends is vitally important. I am always inspired by getting out there and visiting the incredible properties. Gary Vaynerchuk, and Tom Ferry are two influencers who I gain inspiration from, among others. I’ve also learned an immense amount working for Andrew Saunders over the years; he is an expert in the field and I am incredibly lucky to get to work with him every day.
Are there any particular homes within the Saunders catalog that we should know about?
We are very excited about 1400 Meadow Lane, in Southampton Village. This spectacular new oceanfront estate is nearly finished, and it has features you won’t find anywhere else. Located on the stretch of Meadow Lane known as Billionaires Row, this ultramodern home is like nothing else on the market. A collaboration between an internationally renowned architect and a preeminent Hamptons-based architectural firm, the superb design presents Atlantic Ocean vistas through floor to ceiling walls of glass on two floors, and bay views on the other side of the home. There’s a floating glass-walled staircase and a wall of water from floor to roof. It’s really amazing.
Another property to know about is 15 Greentree Court located in Amagansett. Almost completely surrounded by the 189-acre Silver Beech Forest Preserve, this extraordinary modern home blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings. An inspired meld of classical proportions and contemporary design, architect Kevin O’Sullivan has meticulously designed and executed every element, and hand selected every item used for beauty and function.
Last is 126 Dune Road located in Westhampton Beach. This magazine-worthy bay front on Dune Road checks off all the boxes on a buyer’s “wish list:” a coveted “Between the Bridges” address in Westhampton Beach, 95 ft. of bulkheaded water frontage, a deep-water dock with Davit Master boat lift, heated gunite pool, picture-perfect sunsets, and deeded right-of-way to the ocean. This bay front property is one of a kind.
